Jackson State Men’s Tennis Falls to Delta State at Home
Jackson, Miss. — Jackson State’s men’s tennis team lost to Delta State in a home match Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers dropped the doubles point after losing the first match but responded with wins from Ching Chang Chiu and Chen Hung-Yu at the top doubles spot, finishing 6-4.
Despite their efforts, injuries hampered Jackson State in singles play. Fabrizio Fallas and Federico Pickenstainer suffered injuries, giving Delta State two additional points. The Tigers rallied with Chiu winning his singles match 6-3, 7-6, and Hung-Yu defeating his opponent 7-6, 6-3.
The match came down to a three-set duel between Jhoan Vaquero and Juan Diego Alzate. Vaquero took the first set 6-3, but Alzate responded with a 7-6 win in the second. In the decisive set, Vaquero fell 6-4, giving Delta State a 4-2 victory on the road.
Jackson State will host Alcorn State in their season finale Saturday at 1 p.m. The match will be played at home, and fans can follow the Tigers’ season through social media and the official athletics website.
