Jackson State men’s tennis beats Alcorn State 4-1 in season finale
JACKSON, Miss. — The Jackson State men’s tennis team defeated Alcorn State 4-1 on Saturday afternoon in the final match of the regular season. The Tigers secured the win with strong doubles and singles performances.
In doubles play, Ching Chang Chiu and Chen Hung-Yu won their match 6-3. Alcorn State responded with a 6-2 victory to tie the overall score. Jackson State then took the doubles point as Fabrizio Fallas and Gokalp Ayar defeated Thomas Grime and Jor Prats Navarrete 6-2.
Hung-Yu carried his momentum into singles, winning at the fifth spot 6-4, 6-0. After the Braves took the sixth singles match, senior Federico Pieckenstainer clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win at third singles. Chiu sealed the win for Jackson State with a 7-5, 7-6 victory at first singles.
The Tigers will travel to New Orleans, Louisiana, for the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament. They are scheduled to face No. 5 Alcorn State on April 17 at 5 p.m. in a rematch. The winner will advance to the semifinals to face No. 2 Alabama State.
