Jackson State Looks to Bounce Back in SWAC Matchup at Florida A&M
Jackson State travels to Tallahassee, Florida, to face Florida A&M in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game Monday night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST at the Alfred Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center, with the game available on SWACTV.
The Tigers, holding a 5-14 record overall and 4-2 in the SWAC, are looking to stay close to conference leaders Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M, who are tied for first with 5-1 records. Jackson State sits just one game behind in third place, according to sources.
Jackson State leads the all-time series against Florida A&M 5-4 since the Rattlers joined the SWAC, including a win at last season’s conference tournament. The Tigers are led offensively by Daeshun Ruffin, who averages 21.4 points and 5.6 assists per game. In SWAC play, Ruffin’s averages jump to 28.3 points and 9.2 assists.
Other key players include Jayme Mitchell Jr., with 12.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game; Dorian McMillian, averaging 11.2 points and 4.5 rebounds; and Dionjahe Thomas, with 6.8 points and 7.3 rebounds in conference play. Tamarion Hoover, coming off the bench, averages 8.5 points in SWAC games, the sources added.
Jackson State has faced multiple nationally-ranked opponents this season, including Illinois, Louisville, Auburn, and Arkansas. The team has scored 80 or more points in all five of its SWAC games, with a season-high 94 points against Texas Southern in January. The Tigers’ schedule is considered among the toughest in the country, according to multiple sources.
