Jackson State Hosts Florida A&M in Key SWAC Matchup Saturday

Jackson State is set to host Florida A&M on Saturday in a key Southwestern Athletic Conference game at the Lee E. Williams Athletics & Assembly Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., following the women’s game, according to the university.

The Tigers, with a 7-17 overall record and a 6-5 conference mark, are tied for fourth place in the SWAC, one game behind Southern and two behind Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Jackson State and Florida A&M previously met this season, with the Tigers winning 66-65 in Tallahassee.

Leading scorer Daeshun Ruffin, who missed the last two games, averages 23.3 points and 5.7 assists per game. The senior guard, who has recorded three double-doubles this season, ranks first in the SWAC in points and free throws attempted and made, and is among the nation’s top 30 in scoring.

Jayme Mitchell Jr., named SWAC co-Impact Player of the Week, contributes 14 points and five rebounds per game. Dorian McMillian adds 11.9 points and 4.5 rebounds. Jackson State has faced multiple ranked opponents this season, including Illinois, Louisville, Auburn, and Arkansas, marking one of the most challenging schedules in the country, according to sources.

Ruffin and Dionjahe Thomas each recorded double-doubles in recent games. Ruffin scored 23 points with 10 assists against Prairie View A&M and posted 22 points and a career-high 16 assists versus Texas Southern. Thomas added double-doubles with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and 18 points and 12 rebounds in those games.
