Jackson State edges Prairie View A&M in walk-off victory

Jackson, Miss. — Jackson State rallied from behind multiple times to beat Prairie View A&M 9-8 in the ninth inning Saturday at Braddy Field. Pierre Cabral delivered a walk-off single on the second pitch of his at-bat with runners at second and third and one out, driving in the winning runs, according to the school.

Jackson State had tied the game at 6 in the seventh inning before Prairie View A&M regained the lead at 8-6 in the eighth. The Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to make it 8-7, setting the stage for the dramatic ninth. Cabral finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBIs, including a two-run homer. Tyshon Patty went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

The Tigers’ pitcher Kade Walker earned the win in relief, working the final 1.2 innings and allowing one hit and one run. Talmadge Davis started and pitched three innings, allowing two runs on one hit with seven strikeouts. Prairie View A&M’s Ryland Duson and Ethan Walker each contributed offensively, but the Panthers fell short in the end.
