Jackson State Completes Series Sweep With Run-Rule Win Over Prairie View A&M
Jackson State defeated Prairie View A&M 15-4 in seven innings Sunday afternoon at Braddy Field, securing a series sweep in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. The Tigers used a combination of long balls and solid pitching to earn the win, which was highlighted by Jayden Lopez’s performance on the mound.
Lopez (3-1) pitched more than six innings, allowing two runs on three hits with six strikeouts. Christian Delgado finished the game, working the final inning and allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts, according to Jackson State athletics.
The Tigers collected 11 hits, including two home runs that traveled over 400 feet. Pierre Cabral went 2-for-3 with a solo shot in the third inning, his second home run in as many days, and a 405-foot blast down the left field line. Asafa Jones also homered, a 440-foot shot to centerfield in the fifth inning. Jones finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Other notable contributions included Payton Chase Boines, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, and Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr., who was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Wilbert Perez also added two hits, a run scored, and an RBI.
Jackson State’s offense sparked early, with the bottom of the second inning featuring walks, wild pitches, and a three-run single by Robert Tate Jr. The Tigers continued their offensive surge with two home runs in the third and fifth innings and added more runs in the sixth. Prairie View A&M mounted a brief rally in the seventh with two runs, but it was not enough to threaten the outcome.
The Tigers return home Tuesday night to host New Orleans. Jackson State’s athletic department encourages fans to follow the team on social media for updates and coverage.
