Jackson State baseball earns doubleheader sweep with combined no-hitter

Jackson, Miss. — Jackson State swept a doubleheader against Tougaloo on Saturday at Braddy Field, combining for 34 runs and holding the Bulldogs to just four hits over the two games. The Tigers won the first game 19-1 and the nightcap 15-3, featuring a combined no-hitter by four Jackson State pitchers.

In game one, Kade Walker earned the win, working three innings, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts. Kevin De Los Santos pitched three innings of relief, permitting one hit, and Corey Richardson finished the seventh. Jackson State’s offense pounded out 20 hits, led by Robert Tate Jr. and Troy Wilson Jr., each with four hits. Tate drove in three runs, while Wilson tallied five RBIs from the nine hole. Payton Boines finished 3-for-4 at the plate.

The nightcap featured Jayden Lopez, who earned the win with four innings of work, allowing one run with six strikeouts. Lopez was relieved by Talmadge Davis, Darius Dampier, and Caleb Gallant, who combined to throw a no-hitter. The Tigers’ bats continued to produce, with Pierre Cabral going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Tyree Reed and Boines each added two hits to secure the victory.

Jackson State improved to 5-4 with the wins. The team is scheduled to host Alcorn State, Mississippi Valley State, and UNC Asheville this weekend, beginning Friday.
