Ines Belchior Named SEC Freshman of the Week After Career-Best Finish

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Ines Belchior of Mississippi State was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Week, marking her first such honor. The award follows her standout performance at the UCF Challenge, where she finished tied for seventh place.

Belchior posted a three-round total of 210, or 6-under par. She opened with a 2-under 70, followed by a 4-under 68 in the second round. She concluded with an even-par 72, her first time shooting par or better in all three rounds of a tournament.

The freshman from Lisbon, Portugal, had her second career round in the 60s with the 68, which was just one stroke shy of her personal best of 5-under 66, set at the Mason Rudolph Championship. She has now shot par or better in five rounds this season, tying her for 10th on Mississippi State’s single-season list for such rounds.

Belchior’s two rounds in the 60s place her in a tie for fourth-most by a Mississippi State freshman, alongside teammates Avery Weed and Izzy Pellot. The Bulldogs will next compete in the Moon Golf Invitational starting February 16 in Melbourne, Florida.
