Hinds Softball Sweeps Mississippi Delta in Conference Doubleheader

The Hinds Community College softball team earned a conference doubleheader sweep Saturday at Rene T. Warren Field. The Lady Eagles defeated Mississippi Delta 9-5 in the opener and 3-1 in the second game, according to school officials.

In the first game, Hinds jumped to an early lead with five runs in the first inning and maintained momentum throughout the game. The Lady Eagles added a run in the second and three more in the fourth to build a 9-2 advantage before holding on for the win. They totaled 12 hits, led by Emma Hudson, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Alyx Hall contributed a double and two RBIs, while Abigail McLean was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Lekeitha Sampson added a double and an RBI. Laicie Bridges pitched a complete game, allowing five runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

In the nightcap, Hinds relied on strong pitching to secure the victory. The Lady Eagles scored first in the opening inning and broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fourth. They finished with three hits, including doubles from Hall and Hudson. Hudson went 1-for-2 with a run and a walk, while Hall drove in two runs. McLean threw a complete game, allowing one run on two hits with 15 strikeouts and two walks. The team will return to action Tuesday against Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit, with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m., according to the college.
