Hinds Baseball Sweeps SAU Tech in Doubleheader on Sophomore Day
RAYMOND, Miss. — Hinds Community College baseball honored its sophomore class with a ceremony before the first game of a doubleheader against Southern Arkansas University Tech at Joe G. Moss Field. The sophomores responded with strong performances, helping the Eagles secure two wins.
In the opener, Hinds used a dominant late-inning surge to finish with an 18-6 walk-off victory. After falling behind 4-0 in the second inning, the Eagles scored 16 straight runs, including eight in the fifth and another eight in the sixth. The final blow was a towering grand slam over the fence with the bases loaded, ending the game via the run rule.
Offensively, Hinds totaled 18 runs on eight hits, benefitting from 11 walks and multiple hit-by-pitches. RJ Brown led the charge with a career-best performance, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs. On the mound, the bullpen limited further damage after the early deficit, sealing the victory.
The second game was more competitive, with both teams trading runs early and the game tied at 4-4 in the fourth inning. Hinds regained the lead with two runs in the sixth and held on to win 6-5. The Eagles finished with seven hits and five RBIs, while their pitching staff struck out eight and worked out of several late-inning jams to secure the win.
The Eagles are scheduled to return to action March 3 against Coahoma Community College and Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2:30 p.m. For updates, follow @HindsAthletics on Twitter and Instagram or like Hinds Athletics on Facebook.
