Hidalgo Homers as Southwest Mississippi Baseball Falls to Jones College

Jones College hosted Southwest Mississippi in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 25, in Ellisville. The Bears dropped both games, losing 6-3 and 16-8.

In the first game, Talen Boyd started on the mound for Southwest. He pitched 1.2 innings before Dom Smith took over. Smith pitched 2.1 innings, struck out two, and took the loss. Easton Boyte threw three innings with one strikeout and one hit allowed. Nik Carney pitched one inning with a hit allowed. Drew Swan led the team with two hits. JD Hidalgo, Justin Domiano, and Tee Robinson each had one hit. Domiano and Hayes Loper contributed one RBI each.

The Bears scored all three runs in the first inning on a Domiano single, a ground out by Loper, and a wild pitch that allowed Domiano to score. Jones College responded with six runs in the game, sealing the victory.

In the second game, Rhyson Carroway started for Southwest and pitched three innings before taking the loss. Wyatt Garrett pitched 0.2 innings with two strikeouts. Andrew Hoff threw 1.1 innings, and Tee Robinson finished with one inning and one hit allowed with a strikeout. JD Hidalgo hit a solo home run late in the game. Tristain Haynes led the team with two hits and three RBIs. Landon French, Luke Simmons, and Tanner Moore each added one hit. French also contributed a sacrifice fly. Landon French, Hidalgo, Hayes Loper, and Simmons each had one RBI. Walker Wixon stole a base in the contest.

Southwest Mississippi, now 20-14 overall and 4-6 in conference, is scheduled to face Itawamba on the road in Fulton on Saturday, March 28.
