Henderson State rallies past Mississippi College in 5-4 baseball victory
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Mississippi College baseball lost a 5-4 decision at Henderson State on Tuesday. The Reddies scored four runs in the eighth inning to come from behind and win, according to game details.
Henderson State (17-11) capitalized on an error and a two-RBI single in the eighth inning to take the lead. The Choctaws (17-14) had built a two-run lead late but couldn’t hold it. They collected 10 hits for the 14th time this season.
Nick Slonaker led MC at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run and a double. The Kingwood, Texas, native hit his fourth home run of the season and recorded his fourth multi-hit game. Creek Robertson added two hits and drove in two runs, marking his fourth multi-hit game of the season and fifth with two or more RBIs.
The Choctaws scored first in the second inning when Robertson delivered a two-out RBI single to score Tyrus Williams. Henderson State responded in the fourth on an RBI single from Tanner Ross to tie the game at 1-1. Slonaker put MC ahead in the fifth with a solo homer, his second of the season, and Robertson extended the lead with an RBI double in the sixth.
Blake Gollott started for MC, allowing one earned run over a season-high seven innings with seven strikeouts. Taylor Ballard took the loss, allowing two runs with one strikeout in a third of an inning. In the eighth, Henderson State took advantage of an error to score unearned runs, and Trevor Flake’s two-run single gave the Reddies a 5-3 lead.
Mississippi College returns to action Friday, hosting Valdosta State in the first two games of a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
