Golden Lions Edge Mississippi Valley State in Series Opener

Arkansas-Pine Bluff defeated Mississippi Valley State 7-5 Saturday at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The Golden Lions improved to 7-12 overall and 2-0 in SWAC play, while the Delta Devils fell to 4-13 and 0-2 in conference action.

Chris Soeder hit his second consecutive home run for Mississippi Valley State, marking the first time in his 87-game career he accomplished back-to-back homers. The senior finished 2-for-3 with a walk, hit-by-pitch, and three runs scored.

Tom Early also contributed offensively with two singles and two runs scored, while Tanner Aoki drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly and infield single. Eric Williams added an RBI single, and Cody Leming and Gabe Huelsing each contributed with singles and walks, respectively.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s victory extended their current winning streak to two games. The series continues Sunday with a game scheduled for 1 p.m.
