Florida A&M edges Jackson State in 10th inning to win series opener

Florida A&M edged Jackson State 8-7 in 10 innings Saturday night at Braddy Field, securing the second straight extra-inning victory in the series. The Rattlers scored the winning run in the top half of the 10th after Jackson State responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, but fell short.

Jackson State led 6-4 through eight innings before Florida A&M took a 7-6 lead in the ninth. The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the ninth after Isaac McClenty drew a bases-loaded walk, forcing in a run. Florida A&M responded with a run in the top of the 10th, and the Tigers loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom half but could not complete the rally.

Tyshon Patty led Jackson State at the plate, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Diego Melendez and Pierre Cabral each had two hits and an RBI. Jackson State pitcher Darius Dampier took the loss, giving up a run in 0.1 innings. Jayden Lopez started for the Tigers, working six innings and allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts.

The series continues Sunday with a rubber game scheduled for 1 p.m. at Braddy Field, according to Jackson State athletics.
