Delta State’s Tucker Jones Named NCBWA South Region Player of the Week
LAKELAND, Fla. — Delta State University baseball player Tucker Jones has been named the National Baseball Writers Association’s South Region Player of the Week, according to an announcement made Monday.
Jones, a junior outfielder from Brandon, batted .500 last week, going 10 for 20 with 10 RBIs. He hit a double, a triple and a home run during the week. His performance was instrumental in the Statesmen’s three-game sweep of UAH over the weekend.
In the series finale, Jones delivered a two-run single in the seventh inning that tied the game at 4-4. He later scored on an Austin Batts single to give Delta State a 6-4 lead. Overall, Jones went 8 for 15 in the series with nine RBIs.
On the season, Jones is batting .357 with six home runs and 41 RBIs. He also leads the Gulf South Conference with 20 stolen bases in 20 attempts. Delta State is scheduled to play next against the University of Montevallo at Harvey Stadium at Boo Ferriss Field.
