Delta State’s Tucker Jones Named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week

Delta State University baseball player Tucker Jones has been named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The junior outfielder from Brandon, Mississippi, batted .500 last week, going 10-for-20 with 10 RBIs, a double, a triple and a home run.

Jones played a key role in the Statesmen’s three-game sweep against UAH this weekend. He went 8-for-15 with nine RBIs during the series, including a crucial two-run single in the seventh inning of the series finale that tied the game at 4-4. Jones later scored on an RBI single by Austin Batts to give Delta State a 6-4 lead.

Through the season, Jones is batting .357 with six home runs and 41 RBIs. He also leads the Gulf South Conference with 20 stolen bases on 20 attempts. The Statesmen face Henderson State University at Harvey Stadium at Boo Ferriss Field today at 5 p.m. Central Time.

The team’s lineup also features Austin Batts, a junior catcher from Delta State.
