Delta State Women’s Tennis Remains Unbeaten with 4-0 Win Over UT Permian Basin
The Delta State University women’s tennis team extended its undefeated start to the 2026 season with a 4-0 victory over UT Permian Basin on Saturday at the UTD Tennis Complex.
The Lady Statesmen secured the doubles point by winning two of three matches. Amelia Ciesielczyk and Trinity Ly won at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, over Fanny Bergstrom and Sophia Rashid. Anastasiia Iakovlieva and Yasmina Mayer claimed the No. 2 doubles match, 6-2, against Mattea Bowe and Dinethya Dharmaratne. UT Permian Basin took the No. 3 doubles, 6-4, but Delta State had already secured the early lead.
In singles play, Delta State quickly closed out the match. Ciesielczyk won at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, over Dharmaratne. Ly followed with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles to push the team’s lead to 3-0. Lena Kuehn clinched the win for the Lady Statesmen at No. 5 singles, defeating Alyssa Glasgow 6-4, 7-5.
Three singles matches were unfinished after the team victory was secured. Yasmina Mayer was in a close contest at No. 3 singles, while Anastasiia Iakovlieva (No. 4) and Angie Moreno (No. 6) were also active when play was halted.
Delta State will continue non-conference play next week with a match against Spring Hill College on Wednesday, aiming to maintain its winning streak.
