Delta State Women’s Tennis Drops Match to Lynn 4-0

The No. 41 Delta State University women’s tennis team was defeated 4-0 by Lynn University on Friday afternoon at the Ridgeland Tennis Center. Lynn secured the doubles point early in the match.

The Fighting Knights won at No. 1 doubles, with Carla Galmiche and Kristen Younes defeating Amelia Ciesielczyk and Trinity Ly 6-1. They also took No. 3 doubles, where Meadow Garcia and Haley Lizano beat Lena Kuehn and Angie Moreno 6-3 to claim the opening point.

In singles play, Lynn added to its lead with straight-set victories. Salma Djoubri defeated Trinity Ly 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Haley Lizano secured the third point for Lynn with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Moreno at No. 6. The match was clinched at No. 5 singles, where Lea Cakarevic came from behind to beat Lena Kuehn 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 after dropping the first set.

Several matches remained unfinished after the clinching point. Yasmina Mayer led at No. 3 singles, holding a one-set advantage, and Anastasi Iakovlieva was ahead in her opening set at No. 4 when play was halted.

Delta State moved to 7-2 on the season with the loss. The Lady Statesmen will continue their spring break road trip Sunday at the UWF Tennis Complex, facing Valdosta State University in a Gulf South Conference match.
