Delta State Women’s Tennis Dominates Christian Brothers 6-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Delta State University women’s tennis team defeated Christian Brothers 6-1 Tuesday at the Leftwich Tennis Center. The Lady Statesmen improved to 9-6 overall and 1-5 in conference play with the win.

Delta State set the tone early by sweeping doubles play to secure the opening point. Amelia Ciesielczyk and Yasmina Mayer won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Anastasi Iakovlieva and Trinity Ly took a 6-2 victory at No. 2. Lena Kuehn and Angie Moreno earned a forfeit at No. 3 doubles to complete the sweep.

In singles action, Delta State continued its strong performance, winning five of six matches. Trinity Ly defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Iakovlieva posted a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 4. Mayer secured a win after her opponent retired at No. 3. Kuehn and Moreno also received points at Nos. 5 and 6 singles via forfeit.

Christian Brothers’ lone point came at No. 1 singles, where Valerie Neumann defeated Amelia Ciesielczyk 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). The Lady Statesmen are scheduled to host Harding University Friday at noon at the Cleveland Country Club, aiming to build on their momentum.
