Delta State Women’s Tennis Beats Southwest Baptist 4-1

The Delta State University women’s tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches with a 4-1 victory over Southwest Baptist on Tuesday in Magnolia, Arkansas.

The Lady Statesmen claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Anastasiia Iakovlieva and Yasmina Mayer defeated their opponents 6-4, while Lena Kuehn and Angie Moreno won 6-1.

In singles play, Southwest Baptist took the No. 2 match, but Delta State responded with three straight-set victories. Iakovlieva won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4, Moreno swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6, and Kuehn secured the clinching win at No. 5 with a 6-4, 6-1 score. Matches at No. 1 and No. 3 were unfinished.

The Lady Statesmen are scheduled to face Southern Arkansas University on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Live Oak Tennis Courts.
