Delta State women’s tennis beats Southern Arkansas 5-2, improves to 7-1

The Delta State University women’s tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over Southern Arkansas University on Sunday at the Live Oak Tennis Courts in Magnolia, Arkansas. The Lady Statesmen secured the doubles point and won four singles matches to improve to 7-1 this season, according to school officials.

Delta State opened the match by winning two of three doubles courts. Anastasiia Iakovlieva and Yasmina Mayer won 6-4 at No. 2, while Lena Kuehn and Angie Moreno took a 6-1 victory at No. 3. Southern Arkansas responded with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

In singles play, Trinity Ly clinched the win for Delta State with a three-set victory at No. 1, beating Jolina Mass 7-6, 2-6, 6-1. Amelia Ciesielczyk added a straight-set win at No. 2, defeating Isabella Lazzerini 6-2, 6-4. Iakovlieva extended the lead with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 4, and Moreno finished with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.

Southern Arkansas earned points at No. 3 and No. 5 singles. The Lady Statesmen are scheduled to continue their non-conference schedule next week with a neutral-site match against No. 18 Lynn University in Ridgeland, Mississippi, on Friday at 2 p.m. CT, according to team officials.
