Delta State Women’s Basketball Prepares for Road Weekend at Christian Brothers, Union
The Delta State University Lady Statesmen women’s basketball team will hit the road this weekend for two Gulf South Conference games. The team will face Christian Brothers University on Thursday at 5 p.m. in Memphis, Tennessee, and will travel to Jackson, Tennessee, to take on Union University on Saturday at 2 p.m., weather permitting.
Michael Gross will call both games on the Statesmen Sports Radio Network, with a pregame show starting 30 minutes before each tip-off, according to school officials.
Delta State enters the weekend with an 8-8 overall record and a 6-5 mark in conference play. The team lost to Mississippi College 69-63 last Saturday in Clinton. Leading scorer Jaryiah Williamson averages over 10 points per game and posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds against Mississippi College. Dakiya Toney and Olivia Allen have contributed throughout the season, with Allen leading in steals with 31 and Toney averaging 6.7 rebounds per game.
Christian Brothers University, with a 3-14 overall record and 0-11 in conference, is on an 11-game losing streak. Led by Donee’ Frazier, who averages 17.6 points per game, and Alice Conrad, who scores 11.4 points per game, the Lady Bucs fell 63-45 to Lee last Saturday. Conrad also leads in assists, rebounds, and steals for CBU.
Union University has a 12-7 overall record and a 7-4 conference mark. The Lady Bulldogs lost their last two games, falling 79-66 to Lee and 70-61 to Trevecca Nazarene. Olivia Lee averages 15.1 points per game and led her team with 19 points and seven rebounds in the loss to Trevecca. Courtney Zenson adds 11 points per game, while Morgan Escobedo leads in assists with 70 and steals with 41.
The teams will look to improve their standings in the GSC this weekend as they face tough opponents on the road, with the Lady Statesmen aiming to bounce back from recent setbacks.
