Delta State Women’s Basketball Prepares for Conference Clash at Mississippi College
The Delta State University women’s basketball team is set to face Mississippi College on Saturday afternoon in Clinton. The game is scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m. CT, with Michael Gross calling the action on the Statesmen Sports Radio Network. The broadcast begins approximately at 1:30 p.m. CT.
The Lady Statesmen enter the game with an 8-7 overall record and a 6-4 mark in Gulf South Conference play. They are tied for fourth place in the conference standings with Lee University and Trevecca Nazarene. Last weekend, Delta State split its games, winning in overtime against Trevecca Nazarene and losing in overtime to Lee.
Leading scorer Jariyah Williamson averages 10.3 points per game and has a team-high 33 assists. Dakiya Toney also averages double-digit points with 10 per game and leads the team with 6.7 rebounds per contest. Madi Kate Vuncannon shoots 38% from three-point range, ranking third in the Gulf South Conference for three-pointers made. Olivia Allen, a Batesville, Arkansas, native, contributes on both ends and averages 2.0 steals per game, ninth in the conference.
Mississippi College is 5-10 overall and 4-6 in conference play. Nia Coleman leads the Choctaws with an average of 14.1 points per game, while Valencia McFall averages 12.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. McFall also averages 1.3 steals per game. Vivian Sketoe shoots 35% beyond the arc and makes an average of 1.7 three-pointers per game, leading the team in three-point shooting.
The game marks another key Gulf South Conference matchup for both teams as they aim to improve their standings heading into the latter part of the season.
