CLEVELAND, Miss. — The Delta State University women’s basketball team (9-8, 7-5 Gulf South Conference) returns home this weekend for two games against Auburn Montgomery and Montevallo. The Lady Statesmen will face AUM on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Walter Sillers Coliseum, followed by Saturday’s game against Montevallo at 2 p.m.

Both games will be broadcast live on the Statesmen Sports Radio Network and FloCollege, with Michael Gross calling the action.

Delta State enters the weekend with a week’s rest after a 71-35 victory over Christian Brothers last Thursday in Memphis. The Lady Statesmen are one game outside the top four in the Gulf South Conference standings, which will host the first round of the conference tournament next month.

Junior guard Jariyah Williamson leads the team, averaging 10.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Bramyia Johnson has scored a career-high 11 points twice in the past two weeks, including last Thursday against Christian Brothers.

Auburn Montgomery (2-17, 2-11 GSC) enters the weekend on a six-game losing streak. The Warhawks lost their last two games at home, falling to Trevecca Nazarene 92-65 and Lee 77-41. Senior guard Tamora Brown is the team’s top scorer, averaging 13.7 points per game and leading with 36 assists. Samya Brooks averages 13.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Junior forward Nevaeh Small posted a double-double last weekend with 10 points and 12 rebounds against Trevecca Nazarene.

The Falcons (3-15, 2-11 GSC) also face adversity, having lost nine straight games. Most recently, they fell 71-56 at home to Lee. Freshman guard Emily Mouser leads Montevallo with an average of 11.4 points and 56 assists. Shalexia Little added 13 points off the bench in Saturday’s game against Lee, shooting 5-of-7 from the field.

The weekend games present an opportunity for Delta State to improve their conference standing as the postseason approaches, with the Lady Statesmen seeking to climb into the top four.
