BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Delta State University tennis players Amelia Ciesielczyk and Valentin Greco have been named Gulf South Conference weekly honorees, the conference announced Monday.
Ciesielczyk earned the Freshman of the Week award after helping the Lady Statesmen start their season 4-0. She went 3-0 in singles play as the No. 1 singles player, defeating opponents from Southeastern Oklahoma, UT Dallas, and UT Permian Basin. In doubles, she teamed with fellow freshman Trinity Ly, going 2-2 with wins over Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin.
Greco received Player of the Week honors after going 4-0 in singles and 3-1 in doubles during the weekend. He won all singles matches in straight sets against opponents from Southeastern Oklahoma, UT Dallas, Western New Mexico, and UT Permian Basin. In doubles, Greco was part of the No. 1 team that defeated UT Dallas in a match where he went 1-0 in doubles play.
Delta State tennis is scheduled to play a neutral site match today against Spring Hill College in Clinton, Mississippi, at 2 p.m. Central Time.
