Delta State Swimmer Sets NSISC Record in 1,000-Yard Freestyle

Michael Kloth reports from Pensacola, Florida, that the Delta State men’s swimming and diving team delivered a strong performance Wednesday night at the NSISC Championships. The highlight was Mateus Franco’s record-setting swim in the 1000-yard freestyle.

Franco won the event in 9:03.37, breaking the NSISC record and earning an NCAA invite time. His victory secured the conference championship and contributed significantly to Delta State’s team score. Adam Rickert finished eighth, while Austin Huffhines and Reece Achord added points for the team.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Riley Oakes finished third in 1:50.37. Eudald Tosquella won the B-final, placing ninth overall, and Kacper Mochnal and Neill Mauss also scored points for the team. In sprint action, Ethan Baylin placed third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.36, earning an NCAA B-cut.

The team also finished second in the 4×50-yard medley relay, with Oakes, Jacob Hamblen, Mochnal, and Baylin touching in 1:28.12. With the record-breaking performance and multiple scoring efforts, Delta State positioned itself well as the championships progress toward the final days of competition, according to sources.
