The Delta State University softball team will face LeMoyne-Owen College in a doubleheader Tuesday starting at 11 a.m. Central Time at Tilden Rogers Park in West Memphis, Arkansas, according to the schools.

Delta State enters the game with an 0-7 record, while LeMoyne-Owen has not played this season, as its first two games against Rust College were postponed. The Magicians finished the 2023 season with a 9-21 record overall and a 4-17 mark in the SIAC.

For Delta State, Kyleigh Wheaton leads with a .471 batting average, including one home run and four RBIs. She went 3-for-5 with two RBIs last weekend at Spring Hill. Grace Pippin, a senior pitcher, has a 5.25 ERA in 10.2 innings with four strikeouts. Calli McConnell, batting .400, went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Saturday’s doubleheader. She also has six hits in 15 at-bats this season.

LeMoyne-Owen’s standout players include preseason first-team all-conference selections Jaci Joiner and Kelby Harvey. Joiner led the team last season with a .407 batting average and 15 RBIs, along with five stolen bases. Harvey hit .381 last year with 24 hits and eight stolen bases. The Magicians were predicted to finish sixth in the SIAC West Division in the preseason poll released two weeks ago.

This will be the season opener for LeMoyne-Owen, which aims to improve on its previous campaign. Delta State looks to rebound from a tough start as both teams compete in the doubleheader.
