Cleveland, Miss. — The Delta State University softball team (12-21, 6-12 GSC) is set to host Arkansas Tech (22-8, 15-3 GAC) in a doubleheader Wednesday starting at 2 p.m. at University Field. The second game will follow approximately 30 minutes after the first. The matchup was originally scheduled for March 10.

The Lady Statesmen aim to carry forward their recent momentum after defeating Huntsville 5-3 in their series finale Saturday. That victory ended a 10-game losing streak against the Chargers in the series history between the two Gulf South Conference foes.

Last season, the teams split their doubleheader in Russellville, Arkansas. In the opener, Delta State’s Kyleigh Wheaton pitched a three-hit game and contributed offensively with a .412 batting average, nine home runs, and 35 RBIs. Wheaton is seeking to become the first Lady Statesmen to reach double-digit home runs in a season since graduate assistant Abbi Cataldo and former GA Mycala Helms achieved the feat in 2024.

Carly Dunigan has also been a key contributor, batting .389 with six home runs and 27 RBIs. Maeve Lavoy has been strong on both sides of the ball, recording six wins as a pitcher with 63 strikeouts and a 4.53 ERA. She is also hitting .422 this season.

Arkansas Tech has surged in March, winning 12 straight games and going 12-0 for the month. Aubree Jones is batting .329 with 21 RBIs and six extra-base hits. The Golden Suns’ pitching staff has a 2.75 ERA over 214 innings, striking out 158. Aly White leads with 71 innings pitched.

Key players include Abbi Cataldo, Maeve Lavoy, Kyleigh Wheaton, and Carly Dunigan, all of whom have contributed significantly this season.
