Delta State Softball Edges UAH in Series Finale
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Delta State University’s softball team overcame a scoreless start to defeat Alabama Huntsville 5-3 in Gulf South Conference action Saturday at Les Stuedeman Field.
The Lady Statesmen (12-21, 6-12 GSC) broke the game open in the fifth inning with a two-run homer from Carly Dunigan, who brought home Maeve Lavoy. The team added three more runs in the sixth, highlighted by a bases-loaded walk by Lavoy and a two-out, two-run single from Dunigan.
UAH (23-14, 9-9 GSC) mounted a rally in the seventh, scoring three runs. Alexa Douthitt drove in two with a single, and McKamey Bratcher added an RBI single. However, the Chargers left the tying run on base, falling short of a comeback.
Dunigan led Delta State with two hits, including a home run and four RBIs. Mills and Hallie Turner each contributed two hits. Lavoy (6-5) earned the win, pitching a complete game with six strikeouts and five walks, allowing three runs on five hits.
The Lady Statesmen will host Arkansas Tech University on Tuesday at University Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
