Delta State pulls away in second half to beat Auburn Montgomery 76-62
CLARKSON, Miss. — The Delta State University men’s basketball team overcame a halftime tie to defeat Auburn Montgomery 76-62 in Gulf South Conference play Thursday night at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
The teams were tied at 39 at halftime before Delta State intensified its defense and outscored AUM 37-23 in the second half. The Statesmen held the Warhawks to 36.4% shooting after the break and built a lead that reached 17 points.
Bryce Clayton led all scorers with 21 points, including five three-pointers. DaCory Porter recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Brendan Braddix scored a career-high 15 off the bench, providing a spark during a key second-half run. Phillip Hughes added 12 points for Delta State.
The Statesmen used an 11-0 run midway through the second half, highlighted by perimeter shooting and second-chance opportunities. They finished with 20 bench points and forced 14 turnovers, converting those into crucial baskets.
Auburn Montgomery was led by Marius Canery with 17 points and Colby Williams with 14. Despite efforts, the Warhawks could not cut into the deficit late, and Delta State maintained control down the stretch.
With the win, Delta State improved to 8-10 overall and 5-8 in the Gulf South Conference. Auburn Montgomery fell to 3-16 overall and 1-12 in league play. The Statesmen will face the University of Montevallo on Saturday at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
