Delta State Men’s Tennis tops Tuskegee 4-3 on the road
TUSKEGEE, Ala. — The Delta State University men’s tennis team earned a 4-3 victory over Tuskegee on Saturday at the Pepsico Tennis Courts. The Statesmen secured the win with four singles wins after dropping the doubles point.
Delta State struck first in doubles, with Valentin Greco and Valentino Millimaci winning 6-0 at the top spot. Tuskegee responded with wins on courts two and three to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
The Statesmen quickly responded in singles play. Marti Cerda Castillo dominated at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory to even the match. Tuskegee regained the lead with a win at No. 3, but Delta State surged ahead with back-to-back wins from Joaquin Jarochevsky at No. 5 and Valentin Greco at No. 2. Greco’s match went to three sets, with the final two sets ending 6-2 and 6-3 in his favor.
Millimaci clinched the team victory with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 4. Although Tuskegee claimed the final match on court six, the Statesmen had already secured the overall win. Delta State improved to 7-8 and will continue its road swing next week with a match against Christian Brothers University in Memphis on Tuesday.
