Delta State Men’s Tennis Tops Southwest Baptist 4-1

The Delta State University men’s tennis team earned a 4-1 victory over Southwest Baptist on Wednesday at Live Oak Tennis Courts in Magnolia, Arkansas. The win improved the Statesmen’s record to 5-2.

Delta State took the early lead by winning the doubles point. Marti Cerda Castillo and Valentino Millimaci defeated SBU 7-5 at No. 1 doubles, while Juan Diego Alzate and Joaquin Jarochevsky won 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Southwest Baptist evened the match with a victory at the top spot. However, Delta State responded with three straight-set wins to secure the match. Valentin Greco won at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-2, and Cerda Castillo dominated at No. 4, 6-0, 6-2. Alzate clinched the victory at No. 2 with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win. Courts five and six matches remained unfinished.

The Statesmen are scheduled to play Southern Arkansas University on Thursday at 11 a.m. CT at the same venue.
