Delta State Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 45 AUM 5-2
Montgomery, Ala. — The Delta State University men’s tennis team lost to No. 45 Auburn Montgomery 5-2 Friday at the AUM Tennis Complex. The Warhawks secured the doubles point with victories on Courts 1 and 2, including a 7-6 (7-6) win at the top spot and a 6-3 result on Court 2.
Delta State responded with a 7-6 (9-7) win at No. 3 doubles, but Auburn Montgomery took a 1-0 lead into singles play. In singles, Marti Cerda Castillo earned a three-set victory at No. 1, defeating Giuseppe Bonaiuti 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Juan Diego Alzate matched that effort at No. 3, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
The Warhawks clinched the match with wins at the remaining four positions. Valentin Greco pushed both sets to tiebreaks before falling 7-6 (11-9), 7-6 (11-9) at No. 2. Alejandro Bravo lost 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4, while Simon Ojeda was defeated 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 at No. 5. Valentino Millimaci completed the day with a 6-2, 6-4 loss at No. 6.
Delta State wraps up its road trip Saturday afternoon against Tuskegee University, according to the school.
