Delta State Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 16 Lee University 6-1
CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The Delta State University men’s tennis team faced a tough challenge Saturday against No. 16 Lee University at the Cleveland Country Club. The Flames dominated the match to earn a 6-1 victory, according to match reports.
Lee took the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Filipe Krohn and Stefan Mos defeated Juan Diego Alzate and Alejandro Bravo 6–1 at No. 2 doubles, while Francisco Guimaraes and Rytis Razminas secured a 6–4 win over Valentin Greco and Simon Ojeda at No. 3. Court one was unfinished with Marti Cerda Castillo and Valentino Millimaci trailing 4–3.
In singles play, the Flames extended their lead with straight-set wins on courts one, three, five, and six. Krohn beat Ojeda 6–1, 6–3 at No. 1, and Jip Langerhuizen defeated Greco 6–2, 6–2 on court three. Guimaraes posted a 7–5, 6–3 victory over Bravo at No. 5, while Razminas completed the sweep with a 6–2, 6–4 win against Millimaci at No. 6.
Delta State’s lone point came from Cerda Castillo, who mounted a comeback on court four. After losing the first set 4–6, he won the second 7–5 and dominated the match tiebreak 10–8. Alzate pushed his match to a tight first set before falling 7–6, 6–1 to Quinn Groenendijk.
The Statesmen now hold a 4–2 record and will travel next weekend for a non-conference match against Southwest Baptist University at Southern Arkansas University.
