Delta State Men’s Tennis Defeats Alcorn State 7-0

CLEVELAND, Miss. — The Delta State University men’s tennis team defeated Alcorn State 7-0 on Friday at the Cleveland Country Club. The win keeps the Statesmen at a 6-6 record for the season.

Delta State dominated from the start, winning all three doubles matches before sweeping six singles matches in straight sets. Marti Cerda Castillo and Valentin Greco opened with a 6-2 win on the top doubles court, followed by Juan Diego Alzate and Joaquin Jarochevsky taking a 6-1 victory at No. 3. Alejandro Bravo and Simon Ojeda completed the doubles sweep with a 6-0 win at No. 2.

In singles play, Cerda Castillo won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, while Greco posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Ojeda fought through a tight first set before winning 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3. Bravo secured a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5, and Alzate defeated his opponent 7-5, 6-0 at No. 4. Jarochevsky finished the sweep with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 6.

The team will return to Gulf South Conference play next week against Mississippi College on Tuesday afternoon.
