Delta State Men’s Tennis Beats Montevallo 4-3 in Close Match

The Delta State men’s tennis team defeated Montevallo 4-3 Thursday at Cleveland Country Club. The Statesmen won four singles matches after dropping the doubles point.

Delta State lost the doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 3, but Alejandro Bravo and Simon Ojeda won at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, against the 49th-ranked team in the nation. Bravo and Ojeda’s victory was the only doubles win for the Statesmen.

In singles play, Delta State responded strongly. Marti Cerda Castillo led the charge with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Juan Diego Alzate followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3. Alejandro Bravo added another point at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-4 win, and Valentino Millimaci sealed the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.

Montevallo earned wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles but could not catch up. The victory improves Delta State’s record to 10-9 overall and 2-5 in Gulf South Conference play. The Statesmen will host the University of West Alabama on Monday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Country Club for Senior Day.
