Delta State Looks to Carry Momentum Into Series Against Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville
The Delta State University baseball team is headed to Nashville for a key Gulf South Conference series against Trevecca Nazarene. The Statesmen, with a 21-15 overall record and a 14-10 conference mark, will face the Trojans, who are 27-12 overall and 17-7 in the GSC.
The series begins Friday at 5 p.m., with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday starting at noon. The games will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Radio Network, with Michael Gross providing play-by-play and a pre-game show approximately 30 minutes before first pitch.
Delta State aims to build on a midweek walk-off win over Arkansas-Monticello, where Tucker Jones delivered a two-run double in the 12th inning. This marks the first time the program has traveled to Nashville to face Trevecca Nazarene. Historically, the Statesmen hold a 3-1 advantage in the series, including a 2-1 record in conference games since the Trojans joined the GSC last season.
Jones leads Delta State offensively, batting .374 with 17 extra-base hits and 50 RBIs. He is also perfect on stolen bases, going 24-for-24. Levi Lang contributed a multi-hit effort Tuesday, hitting his fifth home run of the season to tie the game in the third inning. Junior transfer Landon Holliman has been effective as a leadoff hitter, reaching base consistently in March.
On the mound, Adrian Byrd has posted a 2.24 ERA with 64 strikeouts in 56 innings. The senior from Hattiesburg recently earned a strong start against Montevallo, striking out 12 batters. Trevecca Nazarene enters the weekend in second place in the GSC with a 17-7 conference record, riding a two-game winning streak. Cade Martin leads the Trojans offensively, batting .408 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs. He is followed by Cade Moore, who has 16 extra-base hits and 32 RBIs.
Logan Harrell is a key pitcher for the Trojans, posting a 2.97 ERA with 65 strikeouts in 60 innings. The series sets the stage for a pivotal stretch for both teams as they jockey for position in the conference standings.
