Delta State Lady Statesmen Set for Final Road Trip of Regular Season in Tennessee

The Delta State University Lady Statesmen women’s basketball team will travel to Tennessee this week for two conference matchups. On Thursday at 5:30 p.m., they face Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. The following day, they will play Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville at 2 p.m., with radio coverage provided by Michael Gross on the Statesmen Sports Radio Network.

Delta State enters the games with a seven-win streak in their last eight contests and a current four-game winning streak. The team is in second place in the Gulf South Conference standings and has already clinched a berth in the GSC Tournament, according to school officials.

Kennedee Shelton, who recently scored a career-high 22 points and was named GSC Player of the Week, leads the team offensively. Jariyah Williamson averages 11.5 points per game and leads in assists with 2.3 per game. Dakiya Toney adds over nine points per game and is the team’s top rebounder with 159 total boards, averaging 6.6 per game.

Lee University, which lost to Delta State in overtime earlier this season, had a seven-game winning streak in January but has lost three straight heading into Thursday’s game. Anna Muhonen paces the Flames with 16.8 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game. Libby Privett averages 12.3 points and 2.6 assists per game and is a key playmaker for Lee.

Trevecca Nazarene’s Jordan Gillies, Cheyenne Trotter, and Tatum Shaw are the team’s leading scorers, averaging 15.7, 13.6, and 12.8 points per game, respectively. Trotter also contributes 10.7 rebounds per game, and Gillies leads in assists with 4.5 per game.
