Delta State Lady Statesmen host Mississippi College in Senior Day matchup
The Delta State University Lady Statesmen women’s basketball team will host Mississippi College on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Walter Sillers Coliseum. The game serves as a Senior Day and a tune-up before the Gulf South Conference tournament next week.
Delta State enters the game with a 16-10 overall record and a 14-7 mark in GSC play. The Lady Statesmen will secure the third seed in the tournament with a win and a Union loss. A loss combined with a Lee win would drop Delta State to the fourth seed, according to team sources.
The Lady Statesmen are coming off a 76-67 victory over Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday in Nashville. Jaryiah Williamson leads the team with an average of 11.5 points per game and also paces the team with 2.6 assists per contest. Dakiya Toney averages 6.7 rebounds and shoots 45.6% from the field. Delta State has been strong at home, posting a 10-2 record at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
Mississippi College, meanwhile, has struggled on the road, going 2-11 outside their home arena. Nia Coleman leads the Choctaws with 13.5 points per game and is also their top rebounder at 5.1 per game. Vivian Sketoe averages nine points and provides offensive support with a 32% shooting percentage from three-point range. Sketoe also contributes 2.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game, according to team stats.
The game will be an important step for both teams as they prepare for the upcoming GSC tournament, with Delta State aiming to improve their seeding and Mississippi College seeking consistency on the road.
