Delta State Hosts Arkansas-Monticello in Season Finale

Weronika Kaczmarska, Cleveland, Miss. — The Delta State University baseball team (20-15, 14-10 Gulf South Conference) will host Arkansas-Monticello (24-11, 19-5 Great American Conference) in a non-conference game Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Boo Ferriss Field. The game will serve as a rubber match after the teams split their previous two meetings this season.

The game will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Radio Network and FloCollege Network, with Michael Gross providing play-by-play commentary.

Delta State is coming off a 12-8 series finale win against Montevallo on Friday. The last time the teams met at Ferriss Field, the Statesmen rallied from two seven-run deficits to win 18-17 in walk-off fashion. Tucker Jones and Jacob Hill each had four-hit games, and Jacob Palazzo delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth to seal the victory.

Tucker Jones, a junior outfielder, leads the team with a .376 batting average, 16 extra-base hits, and 48 RBIs. Landon Holliman, a junior infielder, is hitting .345 as the leadoff hitter, with two home runs, five doubles, and 10 RBIs.

Arkansas-Monticello features Camden Tanner, who is batting .459 with 22 extra-base hits and 11 home runs. Elijah Olaybal and Eli Marvin each have more than 40 RBIs; Olaybal has hit seven home runs, and Marvin has nine.

The Boll Weevils have a team ERA of 5.98, with 138 walks and 221 strikeouts this season.
