Delta State Falls to Henderson State 10-2 in Non-Conference Game
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Delta State lost a non-conference road game to Henderson State, 10-2, Tuesday evening at Clyde Berry Field. The Statesmen, now 11-5 overall and 7-2 in Gulf South Conference play, managed only five hits in the game.
Henderson State, 9-7 overall and 2-7 in the Great American Conference, scored first in the bottom of the first inning on a ground-rule double and a sacrifice fly. Delta State responded in the fourth inning when Cade Greer tripled and later scored on an RBI single by Bo Rock to tie the game at 1.
The Reddies regained the lead in the fifth inning with an RBI triple from Tanner Ross. They broke the game open in the sixth, scoring four runs highlighted by a three-run double from Grant Fitch. Ross added a solo home run in the seventh, his fourth of the season, to extend the lead to 7-1.
Delta State scored a run in the eighth when Greer walked, stole second and later scored on an RBI single by Walker Maranto. Despite threats with two runners on base later in the inning, the Statesmen could not cut further into the deficit. Henderson State added three runs in the bottom of the eighth, aided by two errors and a balk, to reach the final score of 10-2.
Greer led the Statesmen offensively, going 1-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. Rock and Maranto each drove in a run, and Tucker Jones recorded a hit and a steal. On the mound, Aidan McCrady pitched four innings, allowing one hit and one run with four strikeouts. Eli Akins took the loss after surrendering three runs in the fifth inning.
Delta State will continue its road trip later this week with a three-game conference series against Christian Brothers University at Ferriss Field.
