Delta State Baseball tops Henderson State 14-10 in Midweek Game

Delta State University’s baseball team scored 14 runs in the third and fourth innings to rally past Henderson State, 14-10, Tuesday evening at Ferriss Field. The Statesmen, now 19-13 overall and 13-8 in Gulf South Conference play, fell behind 3-0 after two innings before their offense ignited.

Delta State plated seven runs in each of the two innings, with 14 of its 17 hits coming during the surge. Tucker Jones led the offensive effort, going 3-for-4 with five RBIs, including two doubles that sparked the comeback. Levi Lang added a home run, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Cade Greer recorded three hits and drove in a run.

The rally began in the third inning when Jones delivered a two-run double to cut the deficit. The Statesmen continued to capitalize on timely hitting and a Henderson State error, taking a 7-3 lead by the end of the inning. The hot streak carried into the fourth, with Cooper Walls, Henley Parker, and Austin Estes each driving in runs. Jones added a two-RBI double, and Lang’s two-run homer to left center extended the lead to 14-3.

On the mound, Carson Homitz earned his first collegiate win in relief, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing two runs and striking out four. The Statesmen used five pitchers in the game and combined for 10 strikeouts.

Henderson State mounted a late rally with runs in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. Delta State finished with 17 hits, with multi-hit performances from Jones, Lang, Greer, Landon Holliman, and Henley Parker. The team will face the University of Montevallo in a three-game series starting Thursday.
