Delta State Baseball Hosts Southern Arkansas in Home Opener Tuesday
Delta State University baseball will play its home opener Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Southern Arkansas University at Harvey Stadium at Historic Boo Ferriss Field. The game will be streamed on FloCollege and include live stats on the Statbroadcast website, according to school officials.
The Statesmen enter the game with a 2-1 record after opening the season with a series win at Spring Hill. They secured a 9-7 victory Friday and split a doubleheader Saturday, winning the first game 10-5 before losing the finale 5-2.
Levi Lang leads Delta State offensively with a .500 batting average, six hits, two RBIs, two runs scored, and two walks. Austin Estes also had a strong start, batting .444 with four hits in nine at-bats and leading the team with six runs scored. Freshman pitcher Blake King posted a 1.59 ERA over 5.2 innings, allowing one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts.
Last weekend, the team excelled with runners in scoring position, scoring 13 of 20 runs on two-out hits, according to team statistics.
Southern Arkansas, which lost its first four games of the season, has rebounded with two wins in its last three games, including a series victory against Maryville last weekend. Wyatt Fielding leads the Muleriders with a .474 batting average, nine hits, three doubles, and two home runs. Micheal Herndon has added three home runs and leads the team with nine RBIs, helping the Muleriders improve their season record.
