Delta State baseball falls to Southern Arkansas 8-4
MAGNOLIA, Ark. — Delta State University’s baseball team was defeated by Southern Arkansas, 8-4, Tuesday at Walker Stadium. The Muleriders scored three runs in the sixth inning and added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth, overcoming a 3-1 deficit.
The Statesmen (15-13) took an early lead, scoring two runs in the third inning on RBI singles by Jacob Palazzo and Cade Greer. They extended their lead to 3-1 in the fourth after a passed ball allowed a run to score. Southern Arkansas responded in the bottom of the sixth, using timely hitting and patience to score three runs and take a 4-3 lead.
The Muleriders continued to build momentum with two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth, pushing their lead to 8-3. Tucker Jones led Delta State offensively, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored, including a solo home run in the ninth inning. Austin Batts went 3-for-3 with a walk, and Levi Lang added two hits.
On the mound, Mason Shropshire allowed one run over two innings. Carson Homitz pitched three scoreless innings before Southern Arkansas rallied. Nash Koczka took the loss, falling to 0-1.
The Statesmen finished with 10 hits but left nine runners on base. Southern Arkansas recorded nine hits and drew seven walks. Delta State will continue its road series later this week with a matchup against UAH in Huntsville.
