Dallas Christian Defeats Alcorn Softball 16-6 in River City Classic

Jackson, Miss. — Olivia Miller had two hits Sunday evening as Alcorn Softball lost to Dallas Christian 16-6 in the final game of the River City Classic, hosted by Jackson State at JSU Softball Field.

Alcorn, which fell to 1-3 this season, trailed 8-0 before rallying in the second inning. The Braves scored five runs in the bottom of that frame, aided by back-to-back errors by Dallas Christian. Karmen Bernard, Olivia Miller, and Chiara Olison each scored on the miscues to cut the deficit to 8-4. Earlier, Ka’Miya Dillon drove in Se’Marai Smith with a groundout for Alcorn’s first run.

Miller, a junior from Kokomo, Mississippi, finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Smith was 1-for-1 with a run scored. Dallas Christian’s Kayla Looper earned the win, pitching six innings, allowing six runs on five hits with five walks and two strikeouts. Olison, the losing pitcher for Alcorn, lasted two innings, surrendering eight runs on eight hits with one strikeout.

Three Dallas Christian players had three hits each, including Laila Robins, who went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and scored twice. Alcorn returns to action Friday, Feb. 13, traveling to Covington, Georgia, for a five-game weekend, including four against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponents.
