Choctaws Women’s Basketball Beats Montevallo 60-52

Clinton, Miss. — Mississippi College women’s basketball snapped a losing streak with a 60-52 victory over the University of Montevallo at A.E. Wood Coliseum on Thursday. The win improves the Choctaws’ record to 7-11 overall and 6-7 in Gulf South Conference play, while the Falcons fall to 3-15 and 2-12 in the conference.

Karly Ivy led MC with a career-high 24 points, including four three-pointers. She also pulled down seven rebounds, marking a season high. Abigail Winslow added 10 points and 11 rebounds, her third double-double of the season. Faith Quick contributed three steals on the defensive end, and Valencia McFall scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds, continuing her streak of at least nine points in consecutive games.

The Choctaws jumped out to an early lead, converting six Montevallo turnovers into five points in the first quarter. MC shot 35 percent from the field and was perfect from the free-throw line with four-for-four in the opening period. Taleah Anderson contributed on defense with a block, helping MC hold a seven-point lead after the first 10 minutes.

The Falcons rallied in the second quarter, outscoring MC 22-13 to take a two-point lead at halftime. Montevallo shot 57 percent from the floor, including two three-pointers, while the Choctaws managed six field goals on 16 attempts. Montevallo’s bench added six points, giving the Falcons a 33-31 advantage at the break.

Mississippi College regained momentum in the third quarter, forcing six turnovers and scoring 11 points off those mistakes. The team also added four steals and converted all four free throws. MC led 45-43 heading into the final period, thanks to offensive rebounds and aggressive defense.

In the fourth quarter, the Choctaws capitalized on free throws, making seven of 10 attempts. They limited Montevallo to just two field goals on 19 tries, while blocking two shots and securing 10 defensive rebounds. MC outscored the Falcons 15-9 in the final period to secure the victory.

Carlyn Burdette led Montevallo with 16 points, while Kylee Norman added 12 points and four rebounds. Mississippi College hosts Auburn Montgomery on Saturday for their second meeting of the season, aiming for a regular-season sweep. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
