Brewton-Parker Barons sweep doubleheader from Blue Mountain Christian Toppers
The Blue Mountain Christian Toppers opened their three-game SSAC series against Brewton-Parker Christian University with a doubleheader on Friday in Mount Vernon, Georgia. The Barons won both games, taking a 7-1 victory in the first and a 17-8 win in the second, according to sources.
In game one, Brewton-Parker scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and added three more on a three-run home run in the fifth. Blue Mountain Christian scored its lone run in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Jacob Bryant. Despite competitive efforts, the Toppers could not overcome the early deficit, and the Barons secured the win.
Game two saw the Toppers take an early lead when Ross Polizzi drove in Jake Meilstrup with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Brewton-Parker responded quickly, taking an 8-1 lead after three innings. Blue Mountain Christian rallied in the fourth, scoring three runs, including RBI singles by Yaidel Perez and a fielding error by the Barons. Bryant hit another solo home run in the seventh, and Perez added a solo shot in the eighth, bringing the Toppers within a run at 9-8.
However, Brewton-Parker pulled away with an eight-run bottom of the eighth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Fred Diaz, ultimately sealing the 17-8 victory. Bryant was a bright spot offensively, homering in both games. Perez also contributed with a home run and an RBI, while Polizzi drove in runs with an RBI double and sacrifice fly.
The series continues Saturday in Mount Vernon, where the Toppers will look to rebound in the final game of the three-game set against the Barons.
