Brack’s Grand Slam Lifts Mississippi University for Women in Split With Webster
Columbus, Miss. — Mississippi University for Women’s baseball team split a doubleheader with Webster University on Friday at CCA Field. The Owls (15-11, 9-3 SLIAC) lost the first game 16-13 but won the second 13-9, with a key grand slam by Baron Brack.
In the opener, MUW was one inning away from a run rule, trailing 16-6 entering the bottom of the seventh. The Owls rallied for six runs, making the score 16-13. Chase Marshall had an RBI single, Griffin Fuller doubled in two runs, and Swaye Rikard and Zach Johnson added two-run singles. Despite the effort, Webster held on for the win. MUW starter Zach Connell took the loss after 3.1 innings. The Owls out-hit the Gorloks 18-16, with Johnson going 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs. Windham and Marshall also had three hits each.
In the nightcap, MUW’s offense once again produced 13 runs. Will Carter earned the win, improving to 6-0 in 2026. The Gorloks led 5-1 through five and a half innings before the Owls rallied. They scored four runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. The game’s decisive moment came in the seventh when Brack hit a grand slam to give MUW a lead they maintained. Brack finished 4-for-5 with seven RBIs. Johnson added two hits, scored four runs, and hit his seventh homer of the season. Windham contributed two hits and scored twice.
The series will conclude Saturday at 12 p.m., with the rubber game scheduled for that afternoon. Both teams are vying for position in the SLIAC standings, with Webster and Spalding currently leading.
