Blue Mountain Men’s Tennis Falls to Loyola in SSAC Roundup

Montgomery, Ala. — The Blue Mountain Christian University men’s tennis team competed in SSAC Roundup play Thursday, losing 5-2 to Loyola University (La.). The match took place in Montgomery, Alabama.

The Toppers showed resilience in singles play, earning two victories. Kevin Kotzé defeated his opponent in straight sets at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Luis Lainer also secured a win at No. 5 singles, with a 6-0, 6-2 decision.

In doubles, Loyola claimed the early point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Adriaan Englebrecht and Luis Lainer lost 1-6 at No. 1 doubles, while Caleb Rogers and Craig Blevins fell 3-6 at No. 2 doubles. A close match at No. 3 doubles ended 6-7 in favor of Loyola as Pablo Cruz and Kevin Kotzé fell just short.

In singles, Englebrecht lost 2-6, 2-6 at No. 1, and Maj Langerholz was defeated 1-6, 1-6 at No. 3. Cruz dropped a hard-fought second set in a tiebreaker after losing the first set 4-6 at No. 2 singles.

The Toppers will continue SSAC Roundup play as conference matches progress in Montgomery, according to team officials.
