Blue Mountain Falls in double overtime to Tennessee Southern in SSAC women’s basketball
Montgomery, Ala. — Blue Mountain Christian’s women’s basketball team pushed Tennessee Southern into double overtime before falling 75-72 in the opening round of the SSAC Women’s Basketball Championship, according to school officials.
The game was tightly contested from the start, with Tennessee Southern gaining early momentum. Blue Mountain responded with solid defense and patient offense, trading leads with the seeded team throughout regulation.
Both teams continued to battle through two extra periods, with neither able to secure a decisive advantage until the final seconds. Tennessee Southern edged ahead at the end to secure the victory, officials said.
Blue Mountain was led by a balanced effort. Maddie Kirk scored 17 points with eight rebounds and five assists. McKenzie Williams contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Isabella Carlson posted 13 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Rebecca Walter added 10 points and seven rebounds, and Lena Taylor scored nine points with three three-pointers, officials said.
The Toppers connected on 10 three-pointers, totaled 53 rebounds, and recorded 18 assists, demonstrating strong teamwork throughout the game, according to team officials. They also received valuable contributions from other players, including Kathryn Echols, who added seven points and seven rebounds.
School officials praised the seniors for their character and effort during the game. The team’s season continues in the postseason, officials said.
